About Indian Space Research Organisation

Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) is the space research organisation of India. The organisation works in science, engineering and technology to help India and humanity benefit from space. The Department of Space (DOS) of the Indian government includes ISRO as a key component. The department primarily uses different Centres or Units within ISRO to carry out the Indian Space Programme.

ISRO's precursor, the Indian National Committee for Space Research (INCOSPAR) was established by the Indian government on Dr. Vikram Sarabhai's suggestion in 1962. When ISRO was created on August 15, 1969, INCOSPAR was replaced with a larger responsibility utilising space technology. When DOS was founded in 1972, ISRO was also a part of it.

Development and use of space technology for diverse national needs is the main goal of ISRO/DOS. ISRO has created significant space systems for communication, television broadcasting and meteorological services, resource monitoring and management and space-based navigation services in order to achieve this goal. For the purpose of launching satellites into the proper orbits, ISRO has created the PSLV and GSLV launch vehicles.

ISRO advances research and science education in the nation in addition to its technical growth. My Career at ISRO Propulsion Complex

During my tenure with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), I worked in a location called the ISRO Propulsion Complex (IPRC) in Mahendragiri, Tamil Nadu, India. It is used to test, assemble and integrate propulsion systems and stages that are created at the ISRO's Liquid Propulsion Systems Centres.

All liquid, cryogenic and semi cryogenic stage and engine tests for ISRO's launch vehicles and satellites are conducted at this ISRO centre, which is one of the organisation's facilities that could be referred to as the "Jet Propulsion Laboratory of India."

Facilities

Following activities are carried out at ISRO propulsion complex (IPRC).

  • Assembly, integration and testing of launch vehicle motors and stages.
  • Servicing of launch vehicle motors and stages.
  • Propellant storage.
  • Sea level and high altitude tests of cryogenic engines and steering engines.
  • Development and qualification tests.
  • Assembly and integration of flight stages for PSLV and GSLV missions.
  • Assembly and integration of engine and thruster for satellites.

My Professional History at ISRO Propulsion Complex

  • Constructed, supervised and maintained infrastructure systems (electrical substation testing launching pads and support structures).
  • Constructed retaining walls and drainage systems around electrical substations and successfully controlled rainfall and infiltration flow.
  • Leadership position: Successfully led and managed challenging projects, workers, engineers, managers and higher officials.
